Police are investigating a fatal incident involving numerous automobiles on the North Motorway, which resulted in a complete traffic closure Thursday morning.
According to the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred about 3:10 a.m. on I-45 North’s northbound lanes after North Main Street. All outward lanes were closed completely on Thursday morning, but reopened at 7:40 a.m.
Police informed Eyewitness News that a grey Mazda 3 was travelling at high speeds when the driver collided with a barrier, rolled over multiple times, and was ejected from the vehicle.
The 31-year-old female motorist was pronounced deceased on the spot.
Investigators said several other cars on the motorway collided while attempting to avoid the overturned vehicle in the middle of the road.
According to HPD, the collision involved a Lexus RX350 that hit the Mazda, a Ford Fusion that hit the Lexus’s driver, who had stepped out of the vehicle, and a Honda Civic that impacted the Mazda before being hit by a fifth vehicle.
The driver of the Lexus was brought to the hospital and is believed to be fine.
The investigation into the multi-vehicle incident is ongoing.
