Polk County Woman Killed in Head-on Crash After Passing in No-pass Zone

Polk County deputies said a woman died after trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and colliding head-on with a semi-truck.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred soon after 8 p.m. Tuesday on Hwy. 640 at Watson Rd., southeast of Mulberry.

According to PCSO, a 36-year-old Ft. Meade woman driving a GMC Terrain was driving aggressively, overtaking several vehicles and speeding past a blinking red light before attempting to pass another vehicle in a no-pass zone.

According to deputies, the SUV then collided with an oncoming semi-truck, killing the woman on the scene.

Deputies said the semi-truck driver went to the hospital and is likely to live.

The name of the deceased woman was not released by the PCSO.
