RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 36-year-old man from Lapeer died in a head-on collision on Monday morning, while another man was critically injured.
According to the Richfield Township Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:10 a.m. on North State Road near East Coldwater Road, north of Davison.
According to investigators, the Lapeer man was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus north on M-15 at a high rate of speed when he crossed the center line and struck head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a Richfield Township resident aged 30.
According to police, the Lapeer man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Richfield Township man suffered serious abdomen injuries and was taken to Hurley Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Richfield Township police believe the Lapeer man’s excessive speed contributed to the crash. Authorities are also examining whether he was inebriated at the time of the incident.
