The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a two-vehicle, head-on collision about 16 miles south/southwest of Abilene in Dickinson County on the afternoon of May 24 that killed four individuals and injured four more.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol accident report, the driver who went left of center was one of the fatalities.
Dawn R. Peel, 30, of Herington, her passengers Peggy A. Sutton, 71, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Nathaniel Haney, 8, of Herington, and a passenger in the other vehicle, Denise R. Heneley, 57, of Herington, were all slain.
According to the report, those injured included Peel’s other passenger, Matthew J. Haney, 6, of Herington; the other driver, Adam G. Heneley, 23, of Salina; and Adam Heneley’s other two passengers, Aidan G. Heneley, 20, of Herington, and Archer G. Heneley, 14, of Herington.
The mishap happened just before 3 p.m. on K-4 Highway, roughly four miles west of its intersection with K-15 Highway, according to the accident report.
Dawn Peel was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on K-4 when it veered left of center for an unknown cause and collided with a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Adam Heneley, who was traveling west on K-4.
According to the accident report, Archer Heneley’s injuries were suspected to be serious, while Matthew Haney, Adam Heneley, and Aidan Heneley’s injuries were considered mild.
Everyone involved in the incident wore safety straps, it stated.
