Five Hurt, Dozens of Homes Damaged After Friday Night Storms in Monroe County

Authorities in Monroe County say at least five people were harmed and at least 75 homes were damaged from regional storms that moved through Friday night.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 96-year-old man got a head injury from the storms and was transferred to an area hospital. Authorities say his injury was reported to be not life-threatening. The other individuals injured were similarly considered to be not life-threatening, according to authorities.

Authorities said they assisted with major storm damage across the county, including West State Road 45, Stanford Road, Ison Road, Elwren Road, and Harmony Road. An estimated 75 residences received damage from the storm, according to police.

Authorities say the Ranchero Motel on South Old State Road 37, and the Clear Creek Post Office on South Rogers Street also experienced “significant damage” from the storms.

Additional deputies were brought in to assist with the extreme weather to support people who were significantly affected by the storms, according to police.

Several highways were closed owing to storm damage and debris left on the travel way.

An American Red Cross has been formed at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, which is located at 2700 E. Rogers Road.

Individuals are recommended to pack necessary personal things for each family member, including:

  • Extra clothing
  • Pillows and blankets
  • Hygiene supplies
  • Important documents
  • Other comfort items
