The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed to Fox 8 News that one person died and another was hospitalized following a plane crash in Ashtabula County on Sunday morning. According to Lt. Timothy Grimm of the Ashtabula Post, the patrol got a call at 10:11 a.m. Sunday of a plane crash near SR 307 in Harpersville Township.
The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office was the first on the scene, confirming that two passengers were on board a Zenith 701 single-engine plane that crashed at Germack Airport in Geneva.
Lt. Grimm said that one individual had already exited the plane and was strolling about. The person sustained severe burns and was transported to a hospital.
The second individual was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The victims’ identities and ages have not been revealed.
“This is a horrible event. “A life was lost in this incident,” Lt. Grimm added.
It’s unclear where the plane was going or coming from. Lt. Grimm stated that the FAA and NTSB will cooperate with the inquiry.
This is the second deadly plane crash in Northeast Ohio this month.
In early May, a pilot from West Lafayette, Indiana, died when his plane crashed in Ashland County.
