One man faces multiple accusations after being apprehended by Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies following a single-car accident.
Deputies say Jose Lopez, 33, was driving near the Hartford Road exit on Highway 60 when he veered, overcorrected, and flipped the vehicle. This occurred around 1:40 on Sunday morning.
When rescue crews came, they reported finding the automobile upside down.
Witnesses assisted the front-seat passenger out of the automobile, who then fled the area.
Deputies located him, and he provided a statement. According to witnesses, Lopez fled the scene of the crash before being apprehended by Owensboro police.
Deputies said he failed a field sobriety test and was sent to Daviess County Jail. Angelo Lopez, the third occupant in the automobile, was ejected during the incident.
He was rushed to the hospital in what deputies describe as a severe condition.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and Highway 60’s Westbound Lane was stopped for almost two and a half hours. Jose Lopez faces charges of second-degree assault, drunk driving, wanton endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.
The front-seat passenger was not charged.
