2 More Victims Identified in San Diego Jet Crash That Killed 6 and Injured 8 on Ground

Two more victims of last week’s small private jet crash in a San Diego neighborhood have been identified.

The San Diego Medical Examiner confirmed on Sunday that 41-year-old Dominic Christopher Damian and 24-year-old Kendall Fortner were among six people aboard the Cessna 550 jet that crashed and caught fire early Thursday near Montgomery Gibbs Executive Airport in dense fog.

All six on board died, while eight people on the ground were injured, including five treated for smoke inhalation. The crash also destroyed multiple homes and damaged several vehicles.

According to a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator, the crash happened around 3:45 a.m. when the jet clipped power lines seconds before landing in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood.

The NTSB is still investigating the cause of the crash.

On Friday, the Medical Examiner had identified three other victims: 42-year-old David Shapiro, 25-year-old Emma Huke, and 36-year-old Celina Kenyon. The sixth victim’s identity has not been released.

Shapiro was the co-founder of the music talent agency Sound Talent Group. The agency also confirmed Fortner and Huke worked there as booking associates.

The jet was traveling from Wichita, Kansas, to San Diego. FlightRadar24 data shows the plane originated in Teterboro, New Jersey, and refueled in Wichita before continuing to California.

San Diego Assistant Fire Chief Dan Eddy said dense fog was present at the crash site. Minutes before the crash, audio from air traffic control captured the pilot inquiring about weather conditions.

The NTSB also reported that the airport’s weather reporting system and runway lights were not operational at the time of the accident.
