Devonte Oliver of West Lafayette was driving northbound on Indiana 43 Wednesday morning, crossing through a no-passing zone, when his Chevy Traverse crashed head-on with a GMC pickup truck at Tippecanoe County Road 900 East, the sheriff’s department said.
Oliver, 32, was wearing a seat belt and fractured his leg in the head-on collision that occurred around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to the accident reconstruction team’s findings.
According to the sheriff’s department, David Reynolds, 43, of Chalmers, did not wear a seat belt while driving the GMC pickup truck. He also shattered his leg in the incident.
Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service paramedics transported Oliver to Franciscan Health Hospital for treatment and Reynolds to IU Health Arnett Hospital for treatment.
According to the sheriff’s department, the incident caused traffic delays in the region while reconstructionists investigated.
The accident caused traffic in the vicinity to become congested and slowed, but the roads remained open. Traffic on both highways was allowed and unrestricted at 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
