10-year-old Killed in Crash Involving Semi-truck in Atascosa County, Dps Says

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 10-year-old child was killed in a multi-vehicle incident in Atascosa County that involved a semi-trailer truck.

The accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. Thursday on State Highway 16, south of Encino Drive.

According to DPS, a Jeep Compass was behind the semi-trailer truck traveling southbound on the route.

According to a DPS preliminary investigation, the driver of the semi-trailer truck attempted to turn right when it was struck from behind by the Jeep Compass.

DPS told KSAT that the 10-year-old passenger in the Jeep Compass was declared deceased on the scene. The driver was flown to a hospital in San Antonio for treatment.

According to DPS, the driver of the semi-trailer truck was not hurt.

According to DPS, State Highway 16 was momentarily stopped following the incident but reopened within an hour.
