(WDNews) In the past week, tragedy has befallen central Alabama twice, with two fatal dog attacks raising alarm among locals.
Delores Musgrove, 50, was killed Thursday after being mauled by several dogs in an empty area off Martin Street, according to Bessemer authorities. After neighbors reported a commotion, Musgrove was discovered dead in a grassy area, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
In a another occurrence, a 7-year-old boy was mauled to death in Chilton County just two days prior. Investigations into the specifics of that incident are still ongoing.
Residents are now more concerned about violent dogs and the implementation of leash rules, according to local law enforcement organizations. Both cases are still being investigated, although it is unclear if any charges will be brought in each case.
Residents are being advised by officials to report hazardous animals right away and to exercise caution when strolling in places where there may be stray or loose dogs.
