Turn up, give back: 3 star-studded upcoming concerts supporting Texas flood victims

On July 4, devastating flash floods devastated the hill country of Central Texas, killing more than 130 people in the area. 108 of the reported deaths occurred in Kerr County, a steep, flood-prone region that is traversed by the Guadalupe River.

Texas musicians have come together to aid in the healing of the Hill Country following this unanticipated tragedy. Some of the most well-known performers in the state will perform at an amazing string of high-profile charity shows over the course of the following month. A list of Austin’s forthcoming live performances that will support flood recovery efforts in Kerr County and around Central Texas was compiled by The Daily Texan.

Flood Benefit in the Heart of Texas: A Song amid the Storm August 12

Texas country music icons Lyle Lovett and Michael Martin Murphey will collaborate to present Song in the Storm, a roots music benefit performance, at Austin’s historic Paramount Theater on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in support of the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. Andy Hedges, a folk performer from Lubbock, and Jimmie Vaughn, a legendary blues guitarist from Dallas, are among the show’s proud lineup of musicians with strong Texas ties. Experience a stirring evening of Texas soul and grit on Paramount’s famous, curtain-draped stage; tickets start at $75 and sell out quickly.

August 17th, Band Together Texas

An all-star roster of Texas-bred legends, including Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Parker McCollum, Cody Johnson, Jack Ingram, and more, come together as Band Together Texas. The showcase, which will take place on the Moody Center stage, promises a nostalgic blend of popular country and pop music, as well as special appearances from UT football luminaries, Dennis Quaid, and Matthew McConaughey. The concert, which is full with local celebrities, is a symbol of solidarity and pride in Texas. All revenues from the current $180 ticket price go to the Central Texas Community Foundation and the Texas Hill Country Community Foundation.

Sept. 8: Deep in the Heart Benefit Concert

The Josh Abbott Band and ACL Live at The Moody Theater will perform Deep in the Heart, a night of genuine country music, on September 8 at 7:30 p.m. with the goal of raising money for flood relief in Kerr County. Country heavyweights Wade Bowen, Casey Donahew, Carly Pearce, and The Panhandlers are on the show’s program, and Texas comic Steve Trevino will make a cameo. Hearing the twangy sound of country music—guitar strums, fiddle squeals, and a chorus of boots tapping in the audience—fills the small local venue for a starting ticket of $43.
