Troy, Alabama (WDNews) – This fall, Troy Athletics is celebrating the launch of Blakeney’s Brew, the university’s second officially licensed craft beer, developed in collaboration with Horn Beverage and Folklore Brewing and Meadery in Dothan.
Troy’s season opener versus Nicholls on August 30 at Veterans Memorial Stadium will mark the public launch of the new American Amber Ale, which is named in honor of the late head football coach Larry Blakeney.
All season long, 12-ounce cans of Blakeney’s Brew, which has an alcohol content of 5.8%, will be sold throughout the stadium. Fans can also find it in shops and eateries across the Wiregrass after its game-day rollout. Troy University and its athletic departments will benefit from all sales.
Blakeney guided the Trojans to eight conference titles and a spectacular transition from Division II to the FBS, making him the most successful coach in Troy and Sun Belt Conference history. He will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this December, making him the first coach or player from Troy or the Sun Belt to do it.
Folklore Brewing, a favorite in the Wiregrass and Dothan’s oldest running brewery, was founded in 2013. The beer was made possible by Horn Beverage, a longtime Troy booster and one of the city’s largest employers, which also continues to fund regional economic and charitable initiatives.
Now, Trojan supporters may both taste and commemorate tradition.
