Traffic Stop Leads to Fentanyl Trafficking Arrest in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WDNews) –

A traffic stop in the early hours of Wednesday, June 11, 2025, led to the discovery of a trafficking amount of fentanyl, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they were patrolling Peanut Road around midnight when they saw a vehicle run a stop sign. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as Steve Bennett of Pennsylvania.

When deputies approached the vehicle, they reported seeing a glass smoking pipe in Bennett’s lap. He told deputies the substance was marijuana and admitted he did not have a medical marijuana card. Bennett was removed from the vehicle, and deputies conducted a pat-down, locating another glass pipe and a clear plastic baggie in his pockets.

A search of the vehicle turned up several baggies containing a crystal-like substance. The substances were later confirmed to be four grams of methamphetamine and five grams of fentanyl.

Bennett was arrested and faces charges of trafficking in fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
