Teen Shoots, Kills Man During Assault at Dothan Apartment

Dothan, Alabama (WDNews) — Police now think that a teenager attempting to prevent an assault committed a deadly shooting in Dothan as self-defense.

On June 30, just after five in the morning, Dothan police were called to an apartment in the 700 block of Alabama Avenue where someone had been shot. Officers started trying to save the victim’s life when they got there, but they found out that she was already dead. He has been identified as Johnny Oliver, a resident of Dothan, age 28.

Oliver had been beating a woman inside the flat shortly before the shooting, according to the results of a homicide inquiry. According to the police, a youngster at the site received the pistol that Oliver brought to the scene.

Before shooting a single round that hit Oliver in the upper torso, the juvenile made many pleas for Oliver to halt the assault, according to Lt. Scott Owens. The juvenile’s version of the shooting was verified by on-scene witnesses and video surveillance.

The Houston County District Attorney’s Office will review the matter, according to authorities, but no criminal charges are anticipated at this time. Until a decision is made, the investigation is still ongoing.
