Teen Babysitter’s Course Offered July 16 at Youth Sports and Fitness Center

FORT NOVOSEL, AL (WDNews) – Teens who want to become certified babysitters can register today for a U.S. Army Child and Youth Services one-day training session on July 16.

The Youth Sports and Fitness Building, located at 8950 7th Avenue, will host the Teen Babysitter’s Course from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Youth between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to attend the course, and there is a cap of 10 spots available.

A current Child and Youth Services (CYS) registration is required for the $30 course. Participants are need to pack their own lunch and snack. The deadline for registration is July 15, 2025.

Participants must finish the course and turn in signed parental permission and release documents in order to be added to the CYS Babysitter’s List. Consent for Child Abuse Prevention Training is also included in these forms.

A variety of crucial caregiving subjects will be covered throughout the course, such as:

  • American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
  • Home and fire safety training
  • Basic childcare and feeding
  • Diaper changing
  • Basic child abuse prevention

According to Training and Curriculum Specialist Sasha LaForge, youth must finish the entire training day in order to be certified.
