Taylor, Ala. (WDNews) — A 76-year-old Taylor man is in custody without bond after being arrested on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.
According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on July 22 when deputies were notified of a recent sexual assault involving a minor. A deputy quickly gathered initial information, which was then forwarded to investigators in the Criminal Investigation Division.
On July 23, the Child Advocacy Center conducted a forensic interview with the victim, which revealed further details. Investigators identified Max Wayne Smith as the alleged offender. He was located, brought in for questioning, and later arrested.
Smith now faces two counts of Sodomy I and two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child Less Than 12. He remains held in the Houston County Jail without bond.
“Thanks to the swift work of our deputies, investigators, and our partners at DHR and the Child Advocacy Center, we were able to identify and arrest the suspect quickly,” said Sheriff Donald Valenza. “Our priority is always to protect our most vulnerable, and this arrest reflects our commitment to bringing justice to child victims.”
