There are many teams and events in Austin to check out, with the Texas Longhorns serving as a cornerstone of collegiate athletics and expanding their presence in professional sports. As the summer draws to a close, The Daily Texan put together a list of those athletic events for the second half of August.
Texas soccer vs. Arizona State on August 21
As Texas soccer and head coach Angela Kelly prepare to defend their Southeastern Conference title in 2025, they will be replacing a number of elite players. To watch the Longhorns play their second home game of the season against the Arizona State Sun Devils in an early-season match, head to Mike A. Myers Stadium. Fans will be able to attend all of Texas soccer’s home games during the regular season for free.

August 22–24: Professional Bull Riders and Gambler Days
Check watch the Professional Bull Riders when they take over the Moody Center in late August, whether you’re a fan of bull riding or you want to break in your cowboy boots before the Longhorns’ first home football game. Top bull riding is highlighted by the international PBR league, which combines traditional rodeo with thrilling high-stakes action. The Gamblers, Austin’s hometown team, will be involved in the PBR tournament, which features teams from all around the nation.

Texas volleyball’s Orange and White Scrimmage on August 23
Before the regular season begins, get a preview of the 2025 Texas women’s volleyball team by seeing them scrimmage against each other at Gregory Gym. After winning consecutive national titles in 2022 and 2023 and losing early in the NCAA Tournament the previous season, the Longhorns are hoping to regain their position as the top women’s volleyball team.

Round Rock Express vs. Salt Lake Bees, August 26–31
The Salt Lake Bees will play a six-game home stand against the Round Rock Express, the Texas Rangers Triple-A club, at Dell Diamond. With $2 Taco Tuesday, $1 Hot Dogs on Wednesday, Thrifty Thursday (select discounts on tickets, concessions, and souvenirs), Friday Fireworks, a bucket hat giveaway on Saturday, and Kids Day on Sunday to round up the series, the ballpark offers a range of events and deals for fans to enjoy.

Texas soccer vs. TCU on August 28
During the first week of sessions, do you need a break? As Texas soccer prepares for conference play, take a look at another of its non-conference games. Both the Longhorns and TCU, a former Big 12 rival, are coming off strong 17-win campaigns.
