DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — At 3:15 p.m. CDT on Saturday, the Tallahassee National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement alerting people to a powerful thunderstorm that was moving slowly southwest close to Fort Novosel.
Radar reports that the storm, which is moving at only 5 mph, is causing pea-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 50 mph. According to forecasters, strong winds have the potential to topple tree branches, blow around unsecured objects, and cause minor hail damage to plants.
Dothan, Daleville, Elba, Headland, Fort Novosel, Enterprise, Ozark, Midland City, Kinsey, Ashford, Level Plains, Cowarts, Newton, Webb, New Brockton, Ariton, Pinckard, Clayhatchee, Grimes, and Avon are among the Wiregrass communities that are anticipated to be affected by the storm.
It is recommended that residents exercise caution and fasten any unsecured outdoor objects.
