Montgomery, Ala. (WDNews) – Starting July 1, Alabama will ban the sale and possession of all smokable hemp products, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
William Califf, spokesperson for Attorney General Steve Marshall, confirmed the upcoming enforcement in a public statement this week. “It will be illegal to sell or possess smokable hemp products starting July 1,” Califf said in a post made through the AG’s verified social media pages.
The ban includes hemp flower, pre-rolls, and any loose-leaf smokable hemp. Officials say the change will affect both consumers and retailers across the state. While smokable products will no longer be allowed, other hemp-based items such as edibles, oils, and topical products are not impacted by this rule.
No official enforcement guidance has been issued yet by the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board or the AG’s Office, but authorities say businesses should remove any affected products before July 1 to avoid legal consequences.
Retailers and hemp advocates have raised questions about what this means for the future of the hemp industry in Alabama, but so far, the AG’s Office has made it clear the smokable ban is moving forward as planned.
More updates are expected in the coming weeks as enforcement begins.
