ELBA, AL (WDNews) A semi-truck was involved in a single-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 84 just west of Elba late Friday night, killing a Troy man.
According to authorities, the vehicle veered off the road, overturned, and came to rest in a creek close to the Elba city boundaries sign at around 11:15 p.m. on August 22.
At the site, the driver, Robert Lane Fennell of Troy, was declared dead.
Elba Fire Department, Opp Fire Department, Coffee County Emergency Management Agency, Dothan Fire Department’s HazMat team, New Brockton Fire Department, Enterprise Rescue, the Alabama Department of Transportation, Kevin Goodyear Towing, and other assisting partners were among the agencies that responded to the collision.
Investigations are being conducted by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Elba Police Department, the 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and the Coffee County Coroner’s Office.
Coffee County Coroner Arnold Woodham stated, “This is a tragic incident, and we ask the community to keep the family and friends of Mr. Fennell in your prayers as they navigate this unexpected loss.”
