Tracy Nelson, a retired Alabama State Trooper Captain, has been appointed as the new School Safety Coordinator for Dothan City Schools (WDNews).
Nelson has decades of expertise in police enforcement, having started his career in 1996. He succeeds Steve Parrish, who led the district’s efforts to improve safety training, emergency readiness, and threat response during his more than four years there.
Nelson will be in charge of district-wide security and safety operations in his new role. In order to provide a safe environment for all students and employees, he is responsible for collaborating closely with local law enforcement, school officials, and community leaders.
Nelson stated, “I am thrilled to have this opportunity and am looking forward to carrying on the safety and security program Chief Parrish established for Dothan City Schools.”
Additionally, Nelson’s appointment upholds a cherished family custom. His father, son, and grandpa were all Alabama State Troopers.
“I am so happy to have Tracy Nelson join our team,” Acting Superintendent Lee Jacobs said. His wealth of knowledge and commitment to safety will be crucial in guaranteeing our school community’s wellbeing. At Dothan City Schools, safety is the top priority.
On July 7, Captain Nelson formally started working for the district.
