Registration open for ‘Scarecrows in the Gardens’ at Dothan Botanical Gardens

DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — The annual Scarecrows in the Gardens event at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens is currently taking entries.

Online applications and contest guidelines can be found at www.dabg.com. Applications must be submitted by September 16th. There is a $20 admission fee, however schools are exempt. The top two school entries and the top four overall winners will each receive cash rewards.

All Things Music is this year’s theme. According to the organizers, scarecrows need to be kid-friendly and imaginative, funny, mischievous, or endearing.

On Saturday, September 6, and Wednesday, September 10, Sharon Nichols will conduct workshops on creating scarecrows at the botanical gardens. The start time for both sessions is 9:30 a.m. Although the courses are free, attendees are asked to register on the garden’s website in advance.

Admission costs are collected at the Ralph & Carolyn Smith Botanical Center, which is where visitors enter the gardens. At the entry desk, tickets to the Wings of Wonder butterfly house are available for $3 each.

Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens is situated at 5130 Headland Ave. The hours of operation for the butterfly house are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Leash-wearing pets are accepted.
