Persistent inclement weather in the Round Rock area has forced the Round Rock Express and the Albuquerque Isotopes to reschedule their series finale on July 13 for an Aug. 6 doubleheader when the two teams face off in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The announcement came after an almost two-hour delay, with fans waiting patiently in the rain for the weather to subside.
This is the second consecutive week that the Express has had to reschedule its series finale, as similar weather conditions last week forced the team to push a pair of dates with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys to a pair of doubleheaders in September.
Ticket holders for this afternoon’s game will receive an email with instructions to exchange their ticket and parking for any remaining Sunday through Thursday home games. After purchase verification, the tickets and parking will be emailed to the respective ticket holder.
Looking forward
Following MLB’s restructuring of the minor leagues in 2021, which eliminated the Triple-A All-Star game, teams still receive the customary four days of rest associated with the former All-Star week.
Fortunately for the Express, the team will get an extra day of rest, having five days compared to the rest of the Pacific Coast League’s four days. Round Rock will certainly need the break, with the team traveling out west to face two of the league’s best teams — Las Vegas and Tacoma.
The Express will face the PCL’s first-half winner, the Las Vegas Aviators, next weekend. Arguably the toughest challenge Round Rock has faced all season, the Aviators boast the league’s best overall record, 59-34, and the most productive team by a wide margin, scoring a staggering 648 runs.
After Las Vegas, Round Rock will head north to meet the Tacoma Rainiers for the third time this season. The Express notably won its first series in two months in the second series against Tacoma. Since the matchup in late June, the Rainiers have been on a tear, going 11-6 and currently leading the PCL second-half standings.
The Express will have a tough road ahead before it gets back to Dell Diamond near the end of the month.
