Troy, Alabama (WDNews) — The department announced Monday that Devin Pittman, a Troy Police Officer, has been promoted to sergeant.
In a ceremony on June 23, Troy Police Chief Danny Barron officially promoted Pittman to sergeant of the Patrol Division. Since joining the Troy Police Department in 2021, Pittman, a native of Phenix City, has progressively advanced through the ranks.
Pittman, a veteran of the military, started his career in law enforcement as a U.S. Army National Guard military police officer before serving as a correctional officer in Georgia. Later, he studied criminal justice at Troy University.
According to Pittman, “I grew up in a bad neighborhood, around a lot of drug-related activity.” It influenced me to pursue a career in drug enforcement. Lt. (Jason) Barron eventually steered me in the direction of the supervising side of things.
Devin was motivated to join the Troy Police Department by the fact that Pittman’s older brother, Dakota, had already joined.
According to Pittman, he had a significant influence on my presence.
Pittman has obtained multiple qualifications since joining TPD, including Basic Tactical Operator earlier this year and Field Training Officer in 2024. He is also a member of the Emergency Response Team of the department.
Chief Barron remarked, “Everything he does and has done here has been really great.” There is no officer I could ask for better. I’m thrilled that he will be joining us here as a sergeant.
At the promotion ceremony, Mayor Jason Reeves praised Pittman’s dedication to community service and leadership.
According to Reeves, leadership is challenging and all about service. We will make every effort to assist you.
During the ceremony, Pittman’s children, Jayce, Zuri, and Koa, pinned him.
It feels fantastic to move up the leadership ladder, Pittman remarked. If I can, I want to advance all the way to chief one day.
