Pike County Schools Get $250K for Energy-Saving Upgrades

Troy, Ala. (WDNews) As part of a statewide initiative to assist local governments in reducing electricity costs and updating facilities, the Pike County Board of Education will be awarded $250,000 to install energy-efficient lighting in five schools.

The grant, which is one of more than $600,000 in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants given to six Alabama organizations, was announced by Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday. The U.S. Department of Energy provides financing for the program, which is run by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) and promotes upgrades to HVAC and lighting systems.

According to Ivey, these awards will assist in replacing antiquated lighting, heating, and cooling systems with more contemporary models. I applaud the local governments for taking this action to enhance services for its citizens, consumers, and clients.

Kenneth Boswell, director of ADECA, stated that the improvements will result in long-term cost reductions.

“Investing in a program that will help save utility costs over time by using more efficient equipment just makes sense,” he said.
