Ozark Man Charged with Manslaughter Deadly Fentanyl Overdose

Ozark, Ala. (WDNews) After a fatal fentanyl overdose in Ozark, a Dale County man is now being charged with manslaughter.

Investigators connected 58-year-old David Todd Tyler to the July 23, 2025, deadly overdose, and Tyler was taken into custody, according to the Ozark Department of Public Safety. According to the authorities, Tyler is charged with giving the victim fentanyl earlier that day.

That evening, Dale County deputies and police carried out a search warrant at two nearby homes on Will Logan Road. Officers made several arrests after discovering drugs and paraphernalia during the search.

Tyler was first accused of possessing a controlled substance, marijuana in the second degree, and drug paraphernalia. The victim died from a fentanyl overdose, according to postmortem data, and he was later charged with manslaughter on August 4. He is still being held without bond at the Dale County Jail.

  • Charles Taylor Burks, 42 Possession of drug paraphernalia


  • Debbie Gail Thomley, 50 Possession of a controlled substance


  • Jennifer Drexler, 45 Possession of marijuana 2nd degree and possession of a controlled substance

The case highlights the risks of fentanyl-laced medications and the legal repercussions for those who distribute them, officials say, marking a critical turning point in their battle against the opioid crisis.
