OZARK, AL (WDNews): Are you intrigued by the mushrooms that are sprouting in your backyard? Wild Mushrooms 101, a free foraging session offered by the Ozark-Dale County Library, aims to inform the public about edible and harmful native mushrooms.
The workshop will take place at the library on Monday, August 5 from 5 to 6 p.m. Stacy Johnson, a local mushroom specialist, will teach participants the fundamentals of identifying wild mushrooms while emphasizing the advantages and risks of foraging in Alabama’s forests.
“No Goombas here,” the flier says, alluding to the well-known video game antagonists. Rather, the event offers hands-on experience with both safe and toxic mushrooms found around the Wiregrass region, as well as real-life sampling and educational discussions.
Both kids and adults are welcome, and you might even be able to see specimens of mushrooms.
The Ozark-Dale County Library can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at (334) 774-5480. In Ozark, the library can be found at 296 N. Union Avenue.
