ANCHORAGE, Alaska (WDNews) — Following their discussions on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump conducted a joint news conference Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
No final agreement has been struck, according to Trump.
He told reporters, “There is no deal until there is a deal.”
The president emphasized that it is ultimately up to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO leaders, adding that he intends to brief them on the meeting. No press questions were taken, and neither leader provided details about the talks.
Recalling World War II collaboration via the Alaska-Siberia air route, Putin characterized the discussions as positive and mentioned the shared history between the United States and Russia in Alaska. He claimed that both parties understood the necessity of putting aside hostility and pursuing a sustainable solution in Ukraine.
Trump described the meeting as very fruitful, stating that while important issues were not resolved, progress was made on a number of them. In addition to praising his friendship with Putin, he hinted that the two leaders would soon meet again, perhaps in Moscow.
At a time when ties between the two countries have reached what Putin described as their lowest point since the Cold War, this is the first U.S.-Russia summit in four years.
