(WDNews) – What began as protests in Los Angeles over recent immigration enforcement raids is now turning into a growing movement across the country, with more demonstrations planned through the weekend.
The unrest began Friday after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement carried out several raids in and around Los Angeles. Tensions escalated as some protests turned confrontational, prompting President Trump to order the deployment of thousands of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines—even without a formal request from California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Newsom has since asked the Pentagon to reverse the order.
Protests have since spread to cities like Austin, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. Activists are now organizing “No Kings” rallies for Saturday, the same day as Trump’s scheduled military parade in the nation’s capital.
Despite growing opposition, the Trump administration said it will not back down from its enforcement actions.
“ICE will continue to enforce the law,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Tuesday in a post on social media.
In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott announced the state will deploy its own National Guard forces “to ensure peace & order,” with some units already stationed in San Antonio.
Authorities across the country are now preparing for a wave of protests that may extend into the weekend.
