(WDNews) Fort Rucker, AlabamaOn Saturday, August 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the U.S. Army Aviation Museum will celebrate National Aviation Day, providing a full day of free events, displays, and community interaction for people of all ages.
More than 40 vendors and groups from all across the Wiregrass, including neighborhood companies, community service organizations, and military partners, will be present at the event, which is currently in its third year in its current structure. Compared to past years, there will be twice as many participating partners in this year’s event.
Highlights include a mobile planetarium experience from the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and a visit by John Collins, also known as The Paper Airplane Guy and the world record holder for flying paper airplanes. A flight simulator, a bounce house, a super slide, and static displays from the Friends of Army Aviation are among the interactive activities available to families.
Many of the vendors will provide services or resources for local families, and there will be informational sessions, games, raffles, and demos. All day long, food trucks will be present.
The event also honors the history of National Aviation Day, which was first declared by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 to raise awareness of aviation and to commemorate the birthday of aviation pioneer Orville Wright.
All events and museum admission are free. To enter Fort Rucker, non-military guests must get a visiting pass. You can learn more about how to do this at https://home.army.mil/rucker/visit.
The Army Aviation Museum Foundation is hosting the event, and M1: Mission First is sponsoring it.
