Ariton, Ala. (WDNews) –
A Dale County man is facing multiple felony charges after a Tuesday morning crash and kidnapping along County Road 113 in Ariton led to a multi-agency search and arrest.
According to the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area just after 7:30 a.m. on July 15 following reports of a possible wreck with injuries. While searching the area, deputies were flagged down by a man who was identified as one of the victims.
The man told investigators he and a female passenger were driving down County Road 113 when they encountered a vehicle stopped in the roadway. As they approached, the stationary vehicle accelerated and struck their vehicle, pushing both cars off the road. Both victims attempted to flee on foot, but the female was reportedly forced into the suspect’s vehicle at gunpoint.
Investigators later located the suspect and the female victim at a residence on Copperhead Road in Clio with help from the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office. The victim had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Shane Carpenter of Clio, was taken into custody and transported to the Dale County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Carpenter has been charged with:

He was booked into the Dale County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
