DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) – A Dothan woman is dead and a suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of East Spring Street.

Just after 1 p.m. on June 17, 2025, Dothan police officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim. Officers arrived on scene and found 39-year-old Brittney Alise Henderson deceased from a single gunshot wound.

According to Lt. Scott Owens, the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Vincent Phillips of Dothan, fled the area but was later located and taken into custody. He has been charged with Capital Murder and is currently being held without bond.

Investigators say the preliminary findings indicate Henderson was sitting on her back porch when Phillips, who reportedly only knew her as a neighbor, approached her. After a brief exchange, Phillips allegedly drew a firearm, pointed it at Henderson, and fired one round, fatally striking her.

“There are still several avenues of investigation that need to take place,” Lt. Owens said. “In the coming days, we will continue pursuing leads to determine the motive behind this senseless act of violence.”

The Dothan Police Department expressed gratitude to the community for their support and assistance early in the investigation and extended condolences to Henderson’s family and friends.

Anyone with information that could help in the case is asked to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3632 or 334-793-0215.
