Man Charged with Animal Cruelty After Argument Turns Disturbing in Holmes County

Bonifay, Fla. (WDNews) — A Holmes County man is facing charges after deputies say he killed a dog following a domestic dispute.

On June 5, 2025, deputies with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance on Carmichael Road. A woman told deputies she and her boyfriend, Devon Ellis, had gotten into a verbal argument, during which Ellis allegedly threatened to kill her dogs if she left him.

Deputies later found Ellis down the road, along with a deceased dog nearby. Authorities say Ellis admitted to killing the animal.

He was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty.
