DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) – LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is providing free A1c testing to all blood donors through August 31. This opportunity allows donors to support patients in need while learning more about their risk for diabetes.
The A1c test can determine if a person has diabetes or pre-diabetes by calculating their average blood sugar levels over the previous two to three months. More than 80 percent of adults do not know they have prediabetes, and one in three persons has it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Serious side effects like heart disease, kidney failure, and visual loss can be avoided with early detection.
The test doesn’t need fasting, and the findings can be found under Test findings on the LifeSouth donor portal after a week.
