Marianna, Fla. (WDNews) — The Florida Department of Transportation recently honored the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for their exceptional efforts in traffic safety at the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Traffic Safety Challenge.
Through cooperation, training, and the exchange of best practices, the challenge unites authorities from all around the state to enhance traffic safety. To hone their enforcement and preventive tactics, JCSO deputies took part in lectures, practical challenges, and hands-on demonstrations.
Sheriff Donnie Edenfield commended the team’s dedication to training and safety. Those are more than just figures. According to Edenfield, those are lives saved.
In Jackson County, fatal traffic crashes decreased by 44% between 2023 and 2024, distracted driving incidents decreased by 35%, and crashes involving impaired drivers decreased by more than 15%.
The department attributes these outcomes to proactive patrols, improved road visibility, and initiatives like the Teen Driver Challenge run by the Florida Sheriffs Association.
According to Sheriff Edenfield, the JCSO is still dedicated to maintaining road safety and taking the lead in traffic safety initiatives and law enforcement training.
