MONTGOMERY, AL (WDNews) — On Tuesday, Governor Kay Ivey signed a proclamation honoring Alabama’s manufacturing sector and commemorating National Made in the USA Day.
Governor Ivey said, “We are proud to honor the hardworking Alabamans who make our state a true manufacturing powerhouse on this Made in the USA Day.” Because of its solid alliances, creative thinking, and unwavering dedication to quality, Alabama is one of the top five states for the concentration of manufacturing jobs.
According to the National Association of Manufacturers, Alabama’s manufacturing sector will generate over $50 billion in economic production in 2024, accounting for about 16% of the state’s GDP. The industry, which encompasses industries including automotive, aerospace, metallurgy, and kitchen appliances, provides about 290,000 jobs throughout the state.
According to Ivey, her administration is still dedicated to bolstering the sector with growth-promoting policies, infrastructure investments, and employment training.
Through infrastructure investments, worker training initiatives, and a pro-growth business environment that draws top-tier corporations to Alabama, we are constructing for the future, Governor Ivey stated. Communities are flourishing, new jobs are being created, and incomes are increasing as a result of these efforts.
Ellen McNair, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, likewise emphasized the industry’s statewide influence.
“Alabama manufacturers are producing the goods that move the world, from steel and automobiles to rockets and airplanes,” Secretary McNair stated. We have a strong commitment to fostering this industry’s ongoing development because it fosters innovation and opportunity throughout our state.
Through the Alabama Development Fund, the Catalyst strategic plan, and other initiatives targeted at boosting employment and workforce skills, Commerce officials said the department has contributed to the growth of manufacturing.
Alabama exports $26.8 billion in 2024, the second-highest amount ever recorded, and its manufactured goods are sold all over the world. The state is the country’s second-largest auto exporter.
Strong wages are also offered by the manufacturing industry. The National Association of Manufacturers reports that the industry’s average yearly salary in Alabama is above $85,000.
