DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews)
– Alabama Dance Works has received a $1,100 community art grant from Art in Public Places to fund a free performance of
Continuum
, a 2025 spring concert set for June 12–14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dothan Opera House.
Thanks to the grant, the group will also offer a special free morning performance on Friday, June 13, for individuals from underserved communities in the Wiregrass. Alabama Dance Works is partnering with organizations including The Harbor, The Ark, House of Ruth, Chrysalis Girls Home, Vaughn Blumberg Center, Vivian B. Adams Center, Love in Action, Dothan Rescue Mission, and Time Youth Dothan to coordinate attendance.
Art in Public Places Executive Director Holly Meyers said the organization is proud to support performances that expand access to the arts. “This project exemplifies the kind of community-rooted, artist-driven work we are committed to funding across the Wiregrass,” she said.
Artistic Director Christina Hicks said the support helps the company connect with residents who might not otherwise experience live dance. “This grant allows us to open our doors wider, bringing
Continuum
to members of our community who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience professional dance,” Hicks said.
Continuum
is described as an emotionally rich, evening-length performance that blends contemporary dance, original choreography, and storytelling to explore identity, connection, and transformation. The show will feature dancers who reflect the diversity of the communities served by Alabama Dance Works.
