Grand Jury Indicts James Johnson Jr. in Clark Case

WDNews Midland City, Alabama A man accused of killing a Midland City lady in a violent attack inside her house has been indicted for capital murder by a Dale County grand jury.

According to District Attorney Kirke Adams, James Johnson Jr. was charged on Monday with two charges of capital murder: one during a robbery and the other during a rape. Following the grand jury’s examination, Johnson’s initial charges of one count of murder in the death of Sherry Clark, age 57, were enhanced.

After her father asked for a welfare check, Clark was discovered dead in her bedroom on Dale County Road 79 in early November 2024. She hadn’t shown up for work at the Dothan Regional Airport’s Avis Car Rental.

According to Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum, Clark was found unconscious, gagged, chained, and naked. According to Caroline Jackson of the sheriff’s office, a preliminary autopsy revealed that Clark had many sharp-force injuries, including to her breast and vaginal areas, and died from blunt force trauma to the brain.

According to investigators, a week prior to the murder, Johnson was released from the Florida Department of Corrections. According to reports, he was lodging with his mother, who shared a residence with Clark.
