MONTGOMERY, AL. (WDNews) — With immediate effect, Governor Kay Ivey has named Grace Jeter to the position of Circuit Court Judge in Covington County.
According to Governor Ivey, Grace Jeter has a solid record as a prosecutor and a wealth of courtroom expertise when she joins the bench. Her legal career has included work as a staff attorney in the state appellate court in addition to her nearly two decades as an assistant district attorney. She will provide distinguished service to the residents of Covington County and is well-versed in the law.
On May 21, 2025, Governor Ivey appointed former 22nd Judicial Circuit Judge Ben Bowden to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, leaving a vacancy that Jeter will take over.
Jeter expressed gratitude for Governor Ivey’s selection. I am honored to have the chance to continue serving the people of Covington County as Circuit Judge after 20 years of service.
Over 100 jury trials were tried during Jeter’s 19 years as an assistant and chief assistant district attorney at the Andalusian district attorney’s office for the 22nd Judicial Circuit. She also worked for Merrell & Bryan, LLC in Andalusia for two years and as a staff attorney for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals for four years.
Jeter, who lives in Red Level, Alabama, graduated from Huntingdon College with an undergraduate degree in 1996 and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University with a juris doctor in 1999. She has two kids with her spouse, Jeff.
Jeter is appointed as Covington County’s first female Circuit Judge.
