MONTGOMERY, AL (WDNews) — Governor Kay Ivey has announced a change in leadership in the state’s healthcare system. She has appointed longstanding Medicaid leader Stephanie McGee Azar as CEO of the State Employees Insurance Board (SEIB) and named Bo Offord as the next commissioner of the Alabama Medicaid Agency.
Azar has been in charge of the Medicaid Agency for almost 13 years, making him the Medicaid commissioner with the longest tenure in Alabama.
According to Governor Ivey, she was able to maintain a balanced budget while effectively overseeing yearly Medicaid budgets and contributing to the establishment and funding of the first Alabama Medicaid Reserve. Stephanie has managed the state’s public health insurance program with professionalism, and I have no doubt that she will continue to do a great job in her new position.
Since joining the Alabama Medicaid Agency in 2010, Offord, a graduate of the University of Alabama and Faulkner University School of Law, has held the positions of assistant, deputy, and general counsel. He has worked on intricate federal regulatory topics and handled cases in several courts.
Offord stated, “I worked with Commissioner Azar for 15 years, and I saw her leadership firsthand.” I am proud to serve the people of Alabama in this new capacity and thankful to Governor Ivey for the chance.
On July 16, Offord will formally start his new position as commissioner.
