MONTGOMERY, AL (WDNews) — Anthony Todd Boyd, a death row inmate convicted of Gregory Huguley’s 1993 kidnapping and murder in Talladega County, has been ordered to be executed by the Alabama Supreme Court.

The court gave the Alabama Department of Corrections permission to execute Boyd’s sentence on July 30, 2025, within the time range that Governor Kay Ivey had specified. Ivey set the execution window to start at 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and end at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, in a letter dated August 18.

Huguley was kidnapped, shackled, and burned alive for a $200 drug debt, and Boyd, who has been on death row for decades, was found guilty of capital murder.

Governor Ivey said she does not currently have any intentions to give mercy, but she does have the power to provide a reprieve or commutation if needed prior to the execution.

The official death warrant is the Alabama Supreme Court’s order combined with Ivey’s command.
