– Governor Kay Ivey has announced the creation of the Alabama Veterans Resource Center (AVRC) Board, marking a major step toward expanding services and support for veterans across the state.

The eleven-member board, made up of state leaders and private sector partners, will guide the development of a centralized, statewide resource hub for Alabama’s veterans and their families.

The AVRC is part of Governor Ivey’s 2025 legislative agenda and will focus on helping veterans with job training, benefits navigation, legal and family support, and peer-to-peer connections.

“During this past legislative session, I made it a top priority to strengthen our support for Alabama’s veterans, and establishing the Veterans Resource Center was a key part of that effort,” Governor Ivey said. “Our servicemen and women deserve accessible, reliable support as they navigate civilian life.”

The newly appointed board members include:

  • Greg Reed

, Chairman, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Workforce

  • Jeff Newton

, Vice Chairman, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs

  • Kimberly Boswell

, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Mental Health

  • Bobby Singleton

    , Alabama Senate Minority Leader

  • Anthony Daniels

    , Alabama House Minority Leader

  • Stacia Robinson

  • George Talbot

, SVP for External Affairs at Volkert

, Chair of the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Safety Committee

Secretary Greg Reed emphasized that the AVRC aims to streamline access to critical services for veterans, eliminate fragmented systems, and create long-term success.

“Alabama veterans deserve more than just gratitude – they deserve resources to help them navigate the systems that meet their needs,” Reed said. “Our goal is to increase partnerships, eliminate fragmentation, increase trust and improve long-term outcomes.”

Commissioner Jeff Newton said the center is about more than just support—it’s about opportunity.

“This facility will provide an added resource for veterans to thrive after service — to build a future, start a career, and make an impact right here in Alabama,” Newton said.

The AVRC Board is expected to hold its first meeting in the coming weeks to begin planning the rollout of the statewide support network.
