DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) – A free program to help prepare young children for kindergarten is now available to families in Houston, Henry, and Dale counties.

Through the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center’s HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) project, the Pre-K Readiness Program gives parents the resources they need to get their kids, aged two to five, ready for success in school.

Age-appropriate storybooks, materials, and activities that foster language, arithmetic, science, reading, and motor and physical skills are all part of the 30-week program. According to the organizers, a child’s confidence before starting school can be increased and the achievement gap can be closed with just 10 to 15 minutes of engagement every day.

Enrollment is currently available. For further information, families can call (334) 792-6255 or sign up in person at 545 West Main Street in Dothan, Monday through Friday.

HIPPY USA, the Children’s Trust Fund of Alabama, and the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center provide funding for the program.
