When Lloyd Glasspool was a Longhorn in May 2015, he became an NCAA Doubles Champion. On Saturday, just a little over 10 years since his collegiate triumph, Glasspool won the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon in his home country of England.

“It was absolutely incredible. It’s a dream come true, and to be able to do it in front of all your home fans, your friends, your family,” Glasspool said on

, “That was kind of the main thing I wanted to do, was to give back to them.”

Paired with fellow Brit Julian Cash as fifth seeds, the duo took down Australian Rinky Hijikata and David Pel of the Netherlands in a best-of-three matchup with 6-2, 7-6 (3).

Glasspool joins a small list of former Longhorns to go on and win a Grand Slam title, with the last being Kevin Curren and Steve Denton, who won the U.S. Open in 1982 as doubles partners, according to

The former Longhorn did not just make history for his alma mater — he also made history for his homeland. Glasspool and Cash partnered together to become the first British pairing since 1936 to win at Wimbledon.

“I haven’t honestly been through my phone properly … but (there is a) crazy amount of messages,” Cash said on Sky Sports News. “It just shows how much it means to a lot of the people around us, which for us is probably the most special part.”
