– Flowers Hospital is on track to become the first Dementia-Friendly certified hospital in the Wiregrass region, setting a new standard for care in the community.
Hospital staff and volunteers will soon receive specialized training through a partnership with SARCOA to improve support for individuals living with dementia and cognitive decline. The training is designed to increase dementia awareness, enhance patient care, and boost caregiver confidence.
“Our goal is to improve the lives of individuals living with dementia by educating community partners,” said SARCOA education specialist Debra Hodgett.
Montgomery’s Jackson Hospital recently earned statewide recognition as Alabama’s first Dementia-Friendly Hospital, and Flowers Hospital is now leading the way for the Wiregrass.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease, making programs like this more important than ever.
