FLORIDA (WDNews) Schools in Florida are testing a new device called the Campus Guardian Angel as a potential response to school shootings.
CEO Justin Marston created the technology, which positions drones in safe enclosures at strategic locations throughout a campus. The drones are controlled remotely by experts in Texas and launch within five seconds of a silent alert being set off. In addition to giving police live video monitoring, the drones are made to launch non-lethal projectiles to deter a gunman.
Three school districts in Florida that allocated funds for the trials are currently conducting pilot initiatives. According to Marston, each kid pays roughly $4 a month for the system.
As schools around the country continue to look for answers, there is a push for more safety measures. There were hundreds of recorded school shootings in 2024 alone. Although lockdown drills have been used in many schools, some contend that they frequently terrify pupils without ensuring their safety.
