At Tuesday’s Enterprise City Council meeting, Councilman Turner Townsend received recognition for his nine years of community service, leadership, and commitment (WDNews).
After being elected in 2016, Townsend aimed to improve city government’s efficiency, strategic planning, and transparency. He was recognized for fostering growth, investing in infrastructure, and fortifying finances while serving on the council. Projects like the Enterprise Recreation and Aquatics Center, multipurpose ball fields, the refurbished City Hall, and upgrades to downtown Enterprise, roads, and utilities were all made possible by his efforts.
“Turner, your leadership, vision, and commitment to this Council, our city, and our citizens have made a lasting impact,” said Mayor William E. Cooper, who praised Townsend’s tenure. With commitment and vision, you have led the team on everything from parks to infrastructure, from investing in people to investing in projects. We are all grateful for the standard your service has set.
Townsend expressed delight in the accomplishments and remarked that being on the council has been one of the greatest privileges of his life as he looked back on his years in service.
“I have had the honor of working with a mayor, council, and staff that respect each other’s roles and collaborate for the benefit of our city over the past nine years,” Townsend said. We have made investments in important projects, fortified our finances, and prepared the groundwork for Enterprise’s expansion. My coworkers, Mayor Cooper, City Administrator Jonathan Tullos, and the employees whose commitment has propelled Enterprise forward have my sincere gratitude.
Townsend also thanked his family for their support, including his brother and business partner Michael, his wife Lucy, his daughters, and his parents Dale and Mary Alice.
Townsend received a commemorative plaque with coins from various city departments and a small replica of the City of Enterprise flag in appreciation of his service.
On August 5, Townsend’s last meeting as Council President took place. Councilman Greg Padgett of District 3 was unanimously chosen by the council to be the Council President for the balance of the term. A new council president will be chosen at the inaugural meeting in November, marking the start of a new term.
