ENTERPRISE, AL. (WDNews) This week, the City of Enterprise celebrated the park’s rich heritage and the community’s commitment to wellness and leisure by dedicating Peavy Park Phase II and unveiling a new National Fitness Court.

Alfred Peavy, a seasoned teacher and coach who worked for Enterprise City Schools for 36 years until retiring in 1991 as assistant principal of Enterprise High School, is honored at the park. The Peavy family attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside residents, community leaders, and city authorities.

Mayor William E. Cooper commended Peavy’s influence on generations of schoolchildren and recounted his own recollections of taking his kids to the park.

According to Cooper, Alfred would be pleased to see his name on this park and to know that every child that plays here and every family that comes together honors his memory.

The most recent improvements at Peavy Park include a refurbished bathhouse, better parking arrangements, and new asphalt and masonry. The recently constructed bridge that connects the park to the Enterprise Sports Complex was emphasized by City Engineer Barry Mott, who said it is an example of how Enterprise is constructing a brighter future by building on a strong foundation.

As part of a national effort to build free outdoor gyms, the National Fitness Court was also opened during the occasion. With seven training zones and an outdoor studio for group courses, the court, which is locally sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, provides a full-body workout in seven minutes.

“This generosity is a true blessing to our community,” said Blake Moore, Director of Community Services and Recreation at Enterprise. This endeavor is just one more illustration of the commitment and teamwork that keep making our citizens’ lives better.

Local pastors blessed the event, and the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce conducted a jubilant ribbon cutting to wrap things up. The upgrades, according to city officials, demonstrate Enterprise’s sustained dedication to the leisure and well-being of its citizens.
