The Enterprise Sports Complex at Peavy Park, a project made possible by cooperation between the City of Enterprise, Enterprise State Community College (ESCC), and the Alabama Community College System, celebrated its grand opening Tuesday with a gathering of state and local officials.
According to Mayor William E. Cooper, this project is proof of what can be achieved when community partners unite behind a common goal. Visitors from all around the region will be served by this facility in addition to our locals. Bringing a project of this magnitude to the south side of town is particularly significant since it would increase our community’s recreational and social opportunities.
Following a 25-acre property donation from the Alabama Community College System, construction got underway on January 10, 2022. The complex has four sand volleyball courts, three multipurpose sports fields, a pavilion, and restrooms. Additionally acknowledged for its contribution to irrigation support was the Enterprise Water Works Board.
For his early support of the concept, Mayor Cooper paid tribute to the late Matt Rodgers, the former president of the ESCC. Prior to his death in June 2022, Rodgers was present during the groundbreaking.
According to Cooper, Matt Rodgers had faith in this project from the beginning. He would be pleased with the development of this area and, in my opinion, much more pleased with the ongoing and improved collaboration between Enterprise State and the City.
Danny Long, the current president of the ESCC, considered Rodgers’ impact and the area’s change.
“I am honored to continue to water those seeds and build on the relationship we have,” Long added, referring to President Rodgers’ vision for this area of Enterprise. This entire area of Enterprise has been changed for our residents, athletes, and community members. It’s going to be a thrilling day.
According to Blake Moore, Director of Community Services and Recreation, the facility opens up additional venues for regional and local gatherings.
According to Moore, Enterprise now has tremendous opportunities because to the new facilities. We now have the facilities to hold sand volleyball tournaments, youth and adult tournaments, and other events. In addition to enhancing the standard of living for our citizens, this will increase local tourism and attract more tourists to our city.
A multi-phase investment in Peavy Park and the neighboring recreation areas includes the sports complex. The original Peavy Park, which has been renovated with multipurpose fields, more parking, new restrooms, and a pedestrian bridge with walking pathways to connect both sides of the expanding complex, will reopen in the upcoming weeks.
These improvements are in line with the City’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan, which says that Peavy Park’s planned extension and improvements will give residents in south central Enterprise more recreational opportunities.
Mayor Cooper commended the upgrades’ long-term effects. According to him, this is more than just a park. It is a representation of pride, advancement, and a promise fulfilled to our citizens, particularly those on the south side. Generations will benefit from this type of investment in quality of life.
With events and programs starting in the upcoming weeks, the Enterprise Sports Complex at Peavy Park is now accessible to the general public. Visit rec.enterpriseal.gov for further details.
